TESOL Learning Styles来源:TESOL网址:http://www.tesolinchina.com Here I would like to talk about why I think it is hard for an English teacher to teach the children who are all on different levels in a class.
First of all,it is difficult for an English teacher to teach in a class which the children are all on different levels. Because the teacher should find a common ground for advancement in learning on all levels. And this common ground is very important. If the children are on different levels, the acquisition should be very slow or worse. So Teachers need to teach children in accordance of their aptitude.
Teachers have to know their children carefully. Teachers need to know each kid’s level and prepare a ground for each of the kids. Then put the grounds together and find the commonness. It takes a long time to know all the children well.
Teachers also need to be very familiar with each teaching approach because each approach is not fit for each kid. When teachers plan a lesson, they should choose some of the methods and match the methods to the class. Teacher need to pretend and predict what will happen in the class if they use this methods in the class. So that they can avoid the unnecessary issues in the class.
The most important is setting the basic intention of the themes and the objectives. Some children are on high level, they can understand most of the class. But some of the children are on lower level and they are hard to understand the class. Teachers need to set the objectives that can make both the high level kids and the lower level kids understand. Teachers need to follow the principle of zone of proximal development to set the intention and the objectives. Lower level children should get the knowledge with teacher’s help. Also the intention need to be hard enough for the high level kids.
For teaching a lesson well, teachers themselves should spend more time and effort to prepare. It’s hard for an English teacher but it’s necessary.
