TESOL Children's course teaching, when teaching young learners, you quickly realize the need to constantly do something to keep your learners' attention. Your lessons need to be full of color, texture, sound and activity to ensure your learners are engaged and learning. This is why TESOL storytelling is a great tool for young learners in the classroom. Young learners love stories and they are a great way to introduce the language in class. They are fun and can contain a range of activities that appeal to different senses. The key to storytelling, though, is how you approach the story in a way that engages your learners.

Don't be afraid to be dramatic

Using different voices for different characters should be the least you can do! Be imaginative in your reading and your learner will be more engaged. Make sure you complement your words with mime, gestures and movements.

        Create suspense

Questioning allows learners to anticipate or respond to the story and use pauses to build suspense.

Tell the story more than once.

To make the most of a story, it is necessary to tell it more than once. If you don't, the learner may not fully understand the story and may not gain any linguistic benefits from it. However, each time you repeat the story, have your learner do a different related activity. This could be play, such as mentioning words by holding up the correct picture words, acting out stories with puppets, or trying to remember what characters at different points in the story said. TESOL courses about games, songs you will learn a lot, can be fully applied to your teaching.

        Build on the story

Use the story as a basis for other activities that do not necessarily need to retell the story. Learners can sing a song or play a game related to the story. Learners can draw pictures of people or make masks of people. Older learners can even write their own stories.
